The Mustangs jumped on the board in the first and scored one run off third baseman Matt Hart’s RBI single. Mitchell then scored nine runs in the second inning due to three consecutive walks by Wiregrass Ranch pitcher Abel Cubero, followed by a double from senior Zack Newman and a single from Doug Burlett. Mitchell‘s fifth batter, Hart, was then hit by a pitch. Cubero then gave up a single to senior right fielder Brent Halenkamp and walked senior shortshop Ryan Gorton. Bulls Sophomore Ryan Cunius then replaced Cubero on the mound. Cunius walked two, gave up a single and struck out one.
Mitchell’s two other runs came in the third inning. Burlett, Hart and Halenkamp had back-to-back-to-back doubles and senior second baseman Sean Howard snagged a single.
Mitchell’s hurler Kevin Trapp threw a solid game giving up only two hits and striking out three in four innings. Leadoff batter and senior center fielder Angelo Grammatas finished up the game on the mound.
